Using Pistons

This piece starts with a quiet but full setting and is played at a slow majestic speed.

Set the PED Volume to the highest setting, the MANUAL I to 3/4.

Press Piston A 3 AND then press M1/2. This gives you the basic Piston 3 sound and sets up the next piston you press to sound from the B memory.

When you reach the next piston change, lift your hands from the keyboards press the piston, then start the next section.

At the next piston change do the same, but also press the Bombarde 16' stop with your left hand.

Pistons for Hymnplaying

Sometimes all that you need is a hymn machine...an organ that provides a good variety of stop settings preprogrammed for playing hymns. This set of 8 pistons is designed for that purpose.

The pistons listed are graduated, getting fuller and richer as the numbers get larger.

To set and use A 1-4 set and play as is. To set and use the B set press M1/2 to set and use this second set of four.

Pressing the M1/2 piston does not change the sound, so you may change from A to B settings by:

Pressing M1/2 while playing on the level you want to leave.
Then press the new piston, 1-4 which will give you the sound for the new one the moment you play new notes.

[Note that the C-190 follows the MIDI form....sounds change only when new notes are played, so that a chord might be held on a soft setting and unaffected by the new voice changes until you play new notes.]

Click DOWNLOAD to get a free PDF of the pistons.

These were created by Noel Jones and fully use the default or the American Voicing of the instrument as mentioned on other pages of this site.

We invite you to add your comments to this page....
