David Pettit is an accomplished organist and composer. In a career spanning over twenty five years he has appeared throughout the United States mainland and Hawaii, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and the West Indies. Mr. Pettit was a
full scholarship student at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory
of Music where he graduated with degrees in Organ Performance
and Music Education. His organ studies were with Prof. Wayne
Fisher, who was Chairman of the Organ Dept., UC-CCM, and a revered
student of Marcel Dupre. Most recently Mr. Pettit has
As the son of a United Methodist minister, Mr. Pettit has been associated with church music all his life. Through 1992, he enjoyed an eleven-year tenure as organist at the Westwood First Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. It was here that he began to compose sacred music. To date, his catalogue of sacred works encompasses forty five compositions including everything from piano solos to choral anthems and full orchestral writing. Currently, Mr. Pettit is completing a commission for the Summit Choral Society titled An Ohio Symphony for full orchestra, three choirs, vocal soloists and organ that will be premiered at Summit's June, 2003 concert series celebrating the Ohio Bicentennial.
In addition to his solo performing and composition, Mr. Pettit enjoys a musical partnership with Prof. Alan Siebert, who is Head of the Trumpet Dept., UC-CCM. Their duo, named Hornpipes, have played many recitals across the United States and have met with excellent reviews. The duo's second CD entitled The 21st Century Organ and Brass is now in the process of reaching market. In recent months, Hornpipes has performed in many venues including Houston, TX, Richmond, VA, Roswell, NM, Burlington, VT, the UC-CCM Faculty Artist Series, the University of Louisville School of Music, Comstock Hall, the Bruce Nehring Consort Series, El Paso, TX, the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, Corinthian Hall, Philadelphia, and the newly renovated Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY.
Theodore Presser Co., David E. Smith Publications LLC, and Integra Classics publish Mr. Pettit in print. Mr. Pettit has been the Adjunct Professor of Organ at Xavier University, and is presently Product Specialist for the organ builder, Rodgers® Instruments LLC, as well as the Principal Organist of the College Hill Presbyterian Church. He resides in Cincinnati with his wife Deborah and daughter Abbe.
