Reviews - Organist’s Book of Hymns

I am so excited about this, Noel. I am a pianist who studied organ briefly in college over 10 years ago, but haven't played organ for churches on a regular basis since. Having suggestions for stops, and examples of preludes, etc. is exactly what I missed out on in my lessons, and something I have always struggled with, too. I'm not able to be a full-time church organist right now because of family life, but I look forward to using this and other resources from frog press to help me hold on to my talent until I can play the organ again. Thank you!!

A delightful selection - much appreciated!

Thank you for your hard work!

This is a great resource.  We are using it for organ instruction here.  I’m sure the instructor will be along to explain how, as I am a lowly student.

So after purchasing the organist $20.00 option, I can get a organ chorale for any hymn tune currently in the database? Is it a once time purchase or monthly installment? How long is each chorale prelude? Two pages or so?   What a great idea!

I stumbled upon Frog Music's “A Catholic Organist’s Book of Hymns” a few months ago when I was looking for an alternate harmonization for a specific hymn.  I discovered that this project was still in progress, and I eagerly followed their progress as they added new hymn tunes.

Now that the book is complete, I have access to the files in one complete pdf, or individually arranged by tune name;  There are 3-part and 4-part hymns, and chorale preludes.  All the arrangements have a simple beauty, and can either be played as written, or used as a springboard for your own improvisations.  This collection is available through a link to Dropbox so it’s easy to keep up with any future additions or edits.

Noel Jones of Frog Music Press has been very enthusiastic and supportive when I have had questions or comments.  It is very important to me to have excellent support for a product that I will rely upon week after week.

I highly recommend “A Catholic Organist’s Book of Hymns” for your church or personal music library.
