Kol Nidre - Ernest Bloch

The attached recording was made on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at United Hebrew Congregation in St. Louis, MO during a rehearsal for our Kol Nidre Service (the evening of Yom Kippur) using our T957 with MX-200.  The cellist is Ken Kulosa, one of the area's finest players.  The organ was installed about five years ago, and voiced by Ken Kohler of Rodgers Organs of St. Louis.  Hector Olivera exclaimed, "This organ is TO DIE FOR!" when he came to play the dedicatory concert.

This mp3 is completely raw (i.e. unedited and without equalization) and was a single nonstop take.  Consider it as one of the "direct-to-disc" recordings popular in the 1970's and early '80's.  The organ was recorded from the "line out" port on the under-console audio panel, and the cello was miked using a stereo microphone directly in front of the instrument about 18" off the floor.  The duration is 9'57".

Even considering the occasional note imperfections, the overall effect is stunning.  I used the MX to produce the French Horn 2 on the Great;  Harp on the Choir; and Orchestral Strings on the Swell.  The only organ stops used were the Pedal Violone and Subbass 16'; Great Gemshorn 8';  and Swell Flute Celeste II and Voix Celeste II 8'.  There were some creative liberties taken with the score; in many instances, registrations do not reflect the original orchestration.

I hope you enjoy it.
