Lent & Easter
Arrangements by Lauren Gadd & Noel Jones
And Can It Be
This well-known hymn tune with
an organ registration including a principal chorus, flutes, mixtures,
and mutation stops as well as a gorgeous MIDI orchestration accompaniment
that blends the church organ, new age and warm pads, timpani,
luxuriant string ensembles, flute, triumphant brass sections,
and acoustic grand piano would make a joyful prelude or postlude
for the Lent and Easter season.
Behold When I Survey
This new arrangement of the tune
of Rockingham Old combines a lush MIDI orchestration of
muted trumpets, stunning string ensembles, steel acoustic guitars,
warm pads, choir aahs, and acoustic grand piano with lilting
organ registrations beginning with shimmering celestes building
up to a powerful combination of principals, flutes, mixtures,
and mutation stops that lends itself well as a congregational
anthem.
Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
This old favorite Easter hymn
would make an inspiring prelude or postlude for Easter services.
Resounding trumpets and brass sections with hauntingly beautiful
tubular bells complement traditional organ sounds in an arrangement
that will uplift the spirit in a powerful anthem of worship and
praise of the risen Savior.
Go To Dark Gethsemane
This arrangement of a Lenten
tune ending in an uncharacteristic E-flat minor key would serve
a useful role as a prayer response. The accompanying MIDI orchestration
blends a striking solo flute, an oboe, a clarinet, and a bassoon
with a thrilling string ensemble, beautiful tubular bells, and
an acoustic grand piano. Combining this orchestration with flutes,
celestes, and bourdons produces a soothing, contemplatory piece
of celebratory music honoring the events from the last hours
of the life of Christ to His triumphant resurrection from the
dead.
Hallelujah Chorus
Handel's Messiah has long
been a favorite musical work for the Christmas season. Yet, the
work relates the entire life of Christ including his death and
triumphant resurrection. This arrangement of the "Hallelujah
Chorus" contain a breathtaking MIDI orchestration of oboe,
tuba, new age pad, timpani, string ensembles, and acoustic grand
piano. The suggested organ registrations build on this powerful
foundation with principal choruses in both the Swell and Great
divisions and a full pedal registration that rumbles underneath.
The arrangement is a perfect celebratory anthem for Easter services
that will surprise and inspire congregants as they worship the
risen Savior.
In the Cross of Christ I Glory,
Rathbun
This hymn, inspired by a bronze
cross above the ruins of a South Chinese village ravaged by a
typhoon, is a thrilling arrangement using Rodgers advanced MIDI
capabilities and sampled pipe organ voices to produce a compelling
and moving moment in musical worship. The MIDI orchestration
uses Trumpets, Tuba, Timpani, Reverse Cymbal, new age pad, and
church organs in combination with a full organ registration that
concludes in an awe-inspiring wall of gorgeous sound.
Intermezzo, from Cavalleria
Rusticana
This Intermezzo from the verismo
opera, Cavalleria Rusticana, is a wonderfully playful
piece that will grab the attention and the emotions of even those
who are not fans of operatic music. The MIDI orchestration composed
of an oboe, soothing string ensembles, a remarkable orchestral
harp and a striking contrabass is quite exciting as it tugs at
the heart. The organ registrations build on this playful and
emotional piece starting with shimmering celestes, a warm pad,
slow strings, and bourdon doux. The musical tones build until
the full MIDI orchestration is accompanied by a full organ registration
of principal choruses, string ensembles, and Mixtures leaving
the listener awed by the "king of instruments" as it
takes us on an emotional and passionate musical journey.
Near The Cross
This Fanny Crosby hymn arranged
as an organ and piano duet is a playful reworking of an old favorite
for many generations. The suggested organ registrations rely
on Gemshorn, Bourdon, shimmering celestes, and chorale to create
a sparkling musical accompaniment that is quite pleasing to the
ear. And, should you choose to use the accompanying MIDI orchestration
as well, the duet will include a gospel organ and an acoustic
grand piano. This new arrangement is an arresting musical tour
de force.
O Sacred Head
This hymn often mistakenly attributed
to J. S. Bach uses delightful baroque sounds perfect for a prelude
or postlude. The suggested organ registration for this piece
includes a nazard that adds a delightful bite to the music. The
MIDI orchestrations also add a glorious English horn, stirring
harpsichords, a lovely string ensemble, a remarkable recorder,
an electric grand piano and an acoustic grand piano. The liberally
appearing thirds throughout the piece will delight all who hear
this very playful arrangement.
The Palms
If you are looking for an anthem
suitable for celebrating Palm Sunday, look no farther than this
arrangement of Faure's "The Palms." With two alternative
suggested registrations and an accompanying orchestrations relying
on lush strings, a bright oboe, a solo flute, a joyous brass
section, church organs, and acoustic grand piano, you can't possibly
go wrong with this uplifting piece of music celebrating Christ's
triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Were You There
This beautiful African American
spiritual is a beautiful arrangement perfect for a prayerful
meditation for congregations contemplating the sacrifice of our
Lord and Savior. Using a marvelously simple organ registration
relying on celestes, gemshorn, and chimes, this hymn will remind
congregations of the simplicity of the gospel message. The orchestration
is hauntingly beautiful relying on strings, warm pads, an oboe,
choir aahs, a brass section, and church organs to remind all
of us of the wonderful sacrifice made on our behalf on that fateful
crucifixion day.
What Wonderous Love, Wondrous
Love
This simple, yet stunningly beautiful,
arrangement of quite an old hymn has something to please almost
everyone. A starkly soft beginning registration relies on warm
pads, celestes, slow strings, and bourdon doux that underlies
the delightfully off-beat MIDI orchestration. The organ registrations
build throughout this piece until it ends with strings, flutes,
principals, gedackts, and warm pads blended in a triumphant song
of praise to the wondrous love of our Savior. The MIDI orchestrations
accompanying the organ include a playful shakuhachi, a powerful
English horn, a lush string ensemble, orchestral harps playing
in unison, a bright brass section, a church organ, a haunting
atmosphere effect, and a lovely acoustic grand piano. This arrangement
is a wonderful way to worship the Savior during the Lent and
Easter season.
