The Liturgical Choir and Music Program as led by Noel Jones
is no longer in existence.
In August of 2009 the Pastor made the decision to end the music program under my leadership. I continue in obedience to support him.
During the three years I worked for the Pastor, I supported him in all his decisions and continue to do so today.
During the first two years I worked as a paid employee then, when budget cuts became unavoidable, I returned as a volunteer in support of the Pastor's desire to have a music program to match the beauty of the new church.
My three years at the parish were very fulfilling and want to convey my thanks to all members of the parish and the musicians of the parish. You all have my best wishes. Having the opportunity to work with talented strings and brass players and building the choir from 16 singers to more than 45 of all ages was a great experience that I will never forget.
It would be wonderful to return to this parish to work with you all once again if it were to become possible.

Welcome from the Director of Music
Welcome to our website. We maintain this site for the new church member who wants to know more about musical opportunities as well as members who want to know more about what is coming up for music at Mass. The traditional music of the Mass is coming back to many Catholic churches, just before those who studied it, sang and played it, and have not forgotten their love for it have left the earth. And St. John Neumann is helping bring back and preserve that music
A Choir School is more than just people rehearsing on Wednesday night and singing at Mass on Sunday morning. A Choir School builds singers, young and old, introduces singing sacred music to people of all faiths through training and singing and preserves the tradition of music in the Church.
If you love good music, we have what many have called one of the best Catholic Church choirs in America....and great people as well in the choir. Music at Mass offers you a chance to sing, listen and meditate over the Sacred Mysteries of our Faith, as Catholics have done for centuries. If you want friendship and fellowship, consider joining one of our choirs. You will be able to find a choir that sings music that you like...and friends as well.
And you do not need to speak English to join the choir. We welcome all. The tones of voices from different countries make a beautiful sound together. And as one church puts it so politely - if God has blessed you with worldly goods, a donation will be greatly appreciated. It will go to maintain our musical work here.
May God bless you and keep you in his care.

Saint John Neumann Catholic Church
Knoxville, Tenneessee
Saint John Neumann Catholic Church musicians strive year round at Saturday Vigil and Sunday Morning Masses to come closer and closer to the goal of creating music at Holy Mass that focuses on preparing us to receive the Blessed Sacrament and in giving thanks for this Divine Gift.
To do this we seek out music that is truly Catholic...in theology and in style.
Microphones are not used for singing, only the voice as given by God is heard. Singing is unaccompanied or accompanied by organ. The organ is the primary instrument of the church, after the voice.
We recommend very highly the Chabanel Psalms for churches who are striving to find a better way to sing the psalms in the Mass. We have been evaluating many forms of singing the psalms over the past two years, and as you may see, we are currently trying yet another to evaluate them. The Chabanel Psalms have been the most effective ones we have found so far that follow closely the lectionary of the USCCB.

Many of these musicians come together for major feasts. Choirs sing at all Holy Day Vigil Masses.
Harmonia Vocal Quartet, a professional ensemble, sings at Masses as well. We are pleased to have them creating music at this church and cannot thank them enough for bringing Music of the Catholic Church out of the concert hall and back into the church where it originated.
