Recently we were approached by a church whose elderly Yamaha Clavinova piano had failed, leaving them with hours and hours of music on disk in the old .mda format that were lost to them.
After some research and experimentation, we found that there was no way to recover the files and convert the file using software and were stumped. But eventually we located a working floppy disk drive and using an old, refurbished Yamaha player, were able to manually recover the files.
However, more than half of the disks displayed BAD DISK warnings and were not able to the copied. Research into web forums helped to identify the problem and many of these disks are now able to be recovered.
The final process that we have in place involves playing the file normal speed into another sequencer that can save it as a Standard MIDI file.
The charge for this service is based upon the time involved incepting the files.
